Panspermia



 

 

 

Late May and early June, the sky a galaxy of pollen and seed … that is, when the sun is right and you yourself are enlightened enough to look up at the spectacle …

And to fathom its meaning … Nothing less than the re-creation of life on earth! So random yet prolific ... No spore, no seed has but a miniscule chance, yet life persists across eons.

 

Just today, just for a moment, I was transported by a vision, to the twilight dawn of Earthly life, and looking up saw this very same sky, now laden and swirling with aboriginal Cosmic seeds of Galactic life. Panspermia!

 

And why not? Such a beautiful thought - that life throughout all the Cosmos, though separated by light years, is yet directly connected; that our mother is Earth and our fathers are Celestial; and that however miniscule the chance, remnants of Earth might seed yet more Galactic life long after our Sun has vanished! 

 

* Panspermia is the notion that life abounds throughout the Universe, that its “germs” or “spores” exist in meteors, cosmic dust, etc, and have seeded life on Earth. It was postulated by the 5th century BC Greek philosopher Anaxagorasat, and today the possibility is supported by facts such as: In  2009, NASA scientists identified one of the fundamental chemical building-blocks of life (the amino acid glycine) in a comet for the first time. Indeed, scientists as eminent as Stephen Hawking now contend that life forms continue to enter the Earth's atmosphere, and may be responsible for epidemic outbreaks, new diseases, and the genetic novelty necessary for macroevolution.
